Animal Cruelty Case Eyed By Authorities
Officials are working to determine whether animal cruelty charges are warranted in connection with a report filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department last week.
A resident of Byrd Road filed the report on Tuesday, offering pictures to back up her complaint.
The woman reported that a relative who rents a house from her, as well as the relative’s husband, had allowed two kittens to die while caged on the back porch.
Deputies note that there was no food or water inside the cage. The kittens had begun to decompose by the time the report was filed.
The case has been handed over for continued scrutiny by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
